The Wijers is a patchwork of ponds and stream valleys. Heathlands, forests and dunes create a rich diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora. You can find all walking routes below or on www.wandeleninlimburg.be
Walking network De Wijers
Plan your own favourite route in the land of 1,001 ponds using the walking node network.
With the convenient walking nodes, you simply walk from one numbered point to another and create your own route.
The network offers over 450 km of walking trails through heathland, forests and, of course, along the water. It stretches across 25,000 hectares, covering beautiful areas such as Platwijers, Kelchterhoef, de Maten, de Teut, Domain Bovy and Dauteweyers.
The new walking network was developed by Regional Landscape Lage Kempen, with the support of the Wijers municipalities and co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
You can find all routes on wandeleninlimburg.be, or purchase the regional map, with an overview of all routes, including nodes and suggested loops, at the tourist office or online.

Multi-day walking adventure: the Wijerstrail
Are you ready for a new and exciting walking adventure in Limburg’s nature? Then the Wijerstrail is just what you’re looking for! This brand-new trail walk of 110 km takes you on a multi-day journey along the most beautiful spots in the land of 1,001 ponds.
The route is divided into five day stages, each ranging between 16 and 26 km. Along the way, you can count on our Wijerstrail partners to welcome you with open arms, pamper you, and offer extra services for walkers, such as transport to and from the starting and finishing points, a delicious packed lunch, or even a relaxing massage.
The Wijerstrail is ideal for beginner trail walkers. Although it feels like an exploration through unspoilt nature, the route always remains close to inhabited areas. Along the way, you’ll pass numerous highlights such as the Abbey of Herkenrode, Kelchterhoef and Bokrijk. But the water landscape of De Wijers is, of course, central: you walk along, through and even on the water.
